Guide-On

Guide-On is a professional resume builder for service members and Veterans. I interview Anthony Garcia, Guide-On's founder, in BTU #64 - he has an incredible story about starting this great resource for veterans. It is very simple for a member of the Armed Forces to quickly generate a professional resume based on their military experience. This is a major pain point that comes up in many of my interviews, and is a resource every veteran should consider. It is absolutely free.

Whether at our signature employment workshops or through virtual career coaching, clients are partnered one-on-one with an expert Transition Specialist, who works collaboratively to:

Tradecraft

For many veterans, I would advise rotational programs over traditional graduate school. For a short amount of time, you can shift through an organization and start understanding the different functional areas that exist within an industry.

Tradecraft is a start-up prep course. If you are interested in tech, this option could be better for you than an MBA. Tradecraft is a 12-week tech immersion program. They have tracks that include sales, business, development, and user experience. The reason why I think this can be a better option than an MBA is that since it is only 12 weeks, there is much less of an opportunity cost. The price tag is also much lower than an MBA. Also, if you know you want to go into start-ups, this can be a much more targeted approach.
The Veterans Yoga Project
(0)
Veterans Yoga Project is an educational and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of military veterans.

Working in partnership with veterans, active-duty military personnel, student veterans’ organizations, and other non-profit organizations, VYP-trained instructors teach over 100 free yoga classes each week for veterans and their families. By providing support to all veterans, whether they are currently struggling with severe symptoms, or they are focused on increasing resilience and giving back to others, Veterans Yoga Project is doing its part to serve those who have served.
FIND A CLASS
Veterans Yoga Project teaches self-regulation skills. Our Mindful Resilience/Mindful Yoga Therapy program consists of five tools: Breath, Meditation, Mindful Movement, Guided Rest, and Gratitude. These practices are adapted and delivered to maximize their ability to undo the nervous system dysfunctions that underlie symptoms of stress-related conditions.

HEALING RETREATS
Veterans Yoga Project creates opportunities for healing through multi-day retreats. These retreats clear the time and space necessary to release the traumatic imprints that negatively influence our lives and create new habits that are more aligned with our values and goals.

TEACHER TRAINING
Veterans Yoga Project provides advanced training in Mindful Resilience for yoga teachers and healthcare professionals. Our training programs provide yoga teachers and other healthcare professionals with the skills to safely and effectively use yoga as a complementary therapy in clinical and community settings.
The Travis Manion Foundation
(0)
The Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) empowers veterans and the families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations.

Growing up in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Travis Manion was known for his strong leadership qualities, athleticism and academic achievement.

Upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and was awarded a commission into the United States Marine Corps. After finishing at the top of his class at The Basic School in Quantico, VA, Travis was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif with whom he deployed to Iraq for his first tour of duty.

In 2006, Travis was selected, as an experienced Iraq War veteran from 1st Recon Battalion, to become a part of a military transition team (MiTT) with 10 other Marines that would train and partner with an Iraqi Army Battalion in Fallujah, Iraq.

On April 29, 2007, 1st Lt. Travis Manion, his fellow Marines and Iraqi Army counterparts were ambushed while searching a suspected insurgent house in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. Leading the counterattack against the enemy forces, Travis was fatally wounded by an enemy sniper while aiding and drawing fire away from his wounded teammates.

Travis Manion made the ultimate sacrifice that day. His selfless actions allowed every member of his patrol to survive.

For his actions, Travis was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Valor. His legacy continues to grow through the work of TMF, inspiring people to live with character and make an impact by serving others.

We can all remember Travis by carrying on the values that defined his life.
